The Origin of Myths, Legends and Fables

This term we have been learning about Myths, Legends and Fables and this week we have been investigating where these stories originated.

We  have re crafted buildings that were built in the times the stories were written in Minecraft, and then added a voiceover that explains where the Myths, Legends and Fables originated, information about the building and finally comparisons of life then and now.

The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing by Stevenson

Click On This Link And It Will Take You To My Audio Boo About the wolf in sheep's clothing. The Wolf In Sheep's Clothing

Once upon a time on a cold snowy hillside there was an evil hungry wolf wandering around looking for food. The wolf came past a farm where a kind caring shepherd was patting his sheep. He referred to them all by their names. When the wolf looked at the sheep they were nothing but lamb chops.

Suddenly he left. While walking past tree after tree he found a sheep skin under one of them. He thought of an evil plan. His evil plan was to disguise himself and eat the sheep one by one. The evil wolf’s tummy rumbled as he had no doubt that he would eat all of the sheep.

After disguising himself he went and joined the sheep at the farm. He walked around the paddock just like the sheep, grazed like the sheep and talked like a sheep. Then the sun slowly started to set.

That’s when the wolf tried to make his move but failed. When he was just about to eat one of the sheep the shepherd came in to chose the thinnest sheep of them all to eat for dinner. He chose and killed the wolf. After killing the wolf, that had not been a sheep, the shepherd took it home for his wife to roast.

‘’They had a surprise when they put it on the table that it had not been a sheep it was a wolf.

How many Red and Yellow Counters in a Bag?

Today we have been trying to find out how many red and yellow counters are in a bag. We knew there were 5 in there but not how many of each. So we recorded what our teacher was pulling out of the bag each time. We did 50 draws and recorded our results.

This is the pie chart of our results from the 50 draws. We predicted that there were 3 yellow and 2 red counters in the bag and we were 70% certain. We were correct.

Lesieli's Edited Posts

The following is a great example of how you can edit your writing and make it a lot better. Well done Lesieli. It's worth reading the whole post to really appreciate what a great job she has done.

Lesieli's first posting of the narrative.

"We have now landed in Antarctica Dr Jake” said the FA crew. Dr Jake was so excited to explore the cold land, as they made “their way out of the plane, Dr noticed a large amount of frozen mountains. “Its pretty hard to keep warm here” he said to one of his colleagues “But it sure is a amazing piece of land” he cried out

Walking around in the cold freezing ice, he thought it be a good ideal to put his glasses on, placing his google glass on his head, he flicked his hand at the button, to record all of the things he was doing!

Looking at the seals and the penguins made him feel like swimming. But at that time he knew he was alone! “HELLO” he yelled “HELLO”, with no one replying he knew he would be there for a long time!

As the day went by, there was still no one coming for him “HELP I’m starving” he cried out, Spreading his little blanket across the ice cold weather, he knew he wouldn't be able to survive! As he layed down to close his eyes, he heard someone calling out for him.

“Dr, Dr, Dr” the colleagues yelled, “are you ok” ? they asked, “Yes, yes I am ok” “I officially have experienced how the life is here in Antarctica” he said!

Lesieli's second posting of the narrative.

This is my edited version of my writing in Antarctica!

"We have now landed in Antarctica Dr Jake” said the FA crew. Dr Jake was so excited to explore the cold land, as they made “their way out of the plane, Dr noticed a large amount of frozen mountains. “Its pretty hard to keep warm here” he said to one of his colleagues “But it sure is a amazing piece of land” he cried out.

Glazing at the Seals eating their prey and Penguins swimming along the freezing waters, he noticed that the private plane he came in, has suddenly disappeared as well as the FA crew. “ Where have my people gone” he said to himself

Screaming and Yelling “HELP, HELP” he started getting afraid, “uhhh” “hello” “anyone out there” he gulped, ‘ROAA’ went his stomach, “I need food” he said in the dying way! Spreading his blanket across the freezing ice, he knew for sure that he was going to be there for a long time.

As the day went by, there was still no one coming for him “HELP I’m starving” he cried out. Laying down on the little blanket, he heard a helicopter. "This is my chance to save myself" he mumbled.

Grabbing, his only jacket, he waved it in the air, “HELP” he yelled out! “HELP”, Knowing the the helicopter was louder than him he still yelled for help, “HELP” he said once again, but with just a blink of his eye the helicopter was gone.

So he sat back down and gazed at his toes, “Look at my toe” “it getting purple” he said, Once again Dr layed back down and closed his eyes. Then, suddenly he heard a voice “Dr, Dr” it yelled, “could it be” he said “is it Roger, Roger my colleague”

“Yes, Yes” “Its me Roger” the voice said, as soon as he heard the word Roger, he got right up, looking around, he noticed Roger, “ROGGGGEEEER” he yelled. But while he was calling out for him he noticed a plane, “Hey that’s the Plane I came in” he mumbled.

As Roger tured back, he ran to doctor and told him that they have been waiting for him in the plane “huuu” “So your saying that the plane was there all along”? “Yes doctor” said Roger!

Antarctica - written by Ronn

The extremely giant misty cold wind of the biggest desert in the world almost knocked my feet off of the ground and sent me flying but on the bottom of my boot’s were spike’s so I could stand on the ice. Do you know where I am? Yes it is Antarctica. I have been here to research how deep and cold the water is. Today I learnt the deeper you go under the cold water the warmer it get’s.

I also learnt that male emperor penguin take care of their egg while the mum goes fishing. When killer whales find their prey they cooperate to get the seal or penguin off of the iceberg. Some leopard seal’s are so viscous that they eat other seal’s!!

Antarctica - Written by Khaia

Antarctica is larger than europe and australia it is extremely cold. It’s like a desert but cold and the icebergs are carved by the wind and sea. I’d hate to go in a condition with one of the strongest storm there. The water is really icy but when you go all the way down to the bottom of the sea its warm because its closer to the center of the world.

There are many animals that live in Antarctica some are clumsy some are carnivores and some slide on their bellies.  The killer whale is a carnivores because it eats other whales, it also eats squid, fish, seal, dolphins and seabirds. There is one seal that eats other seals baby and that is the leopard seal they call it the leopard seal because of its spots. Did you know the emperor penguin is the largest penguin. there are 17 different types of penguins and five different types of seals.

Roller blading on the first day of camp! By Meleane

The first day of camp was so exciting and hilarious because we did all sorts of things like, basketball and table tennis. Best of all was roller blading. I kept on falling over and bumping in to chairs and walls but that was cool. I will love to do that again some other times.

Wow! The first week of the year already has a holiday and that was Waitangi day. For Waitangi day we went down to St. heliers beach with my family and went for swim.

As  we got there we got changed then we  hopped in the cold salty sandy water  I was shivering and I had thousands of goosebumps it felt like I was at artantaka. We were jumping off the rocks and doing bombs. My cousin were chucking us and doing lots of dives.

Later on it was a beautiful sunset and we got changed then we ate are leftover barbecue from this morning. Few minutes we were packing up and we all had a wonderful time.
